John Watson
JOHN WATSON, host of WILM Newsradio's News Talk AM, 9:00 to 11:30 am Monday through Friday, is a broadcast veteran of over 30 years. The program deals mostly with politics and domestic and foreign policy issues. Over the years, John has interviewed such people as President Lyndon Johnson, Actor Charlton Heston, Presidential candidates Phil Graham and Lamar Alexander, Speaker of the house Newt Gingrich, and President Bill Clinton. John Watson, Host of WILM NEWSTALK-AM, for over 20 years on
WILM NEWSRADIO, has been a Broadcaster for some 30 years, and
counting. During his time at WILM, he has won First Place Journalism Awards
every year. Usually more than one. This year he has Three so far: from the
Delaware Press Association, The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcast
Association and the Society of Professional Journalist, Greater Philadelphia
Chapter.
Delaware Today magazine readers have picked John as Delaware's "BEST
TALK SHOW HOST", and this year he won the  "BEST DELAWARE TALK SHOW HOST" Delaware Today READERS award.
John hosts WILM NEWSTALK-AM, 9-11:30 A.M. Mon-Fri. He has been
a political analyst on "Twelve Tonight" from TV-12 WHYY. And untill
the show was cancelled, John was a regular on the national TV program,
"NEWS TALK" TV, orginiating in New York City. And for several months,
he worked with Trudy Haynes, former KYW-TV reporter, on the TV show,
"Here And There In Delaware".
In the Mid-90's Watson was one of five medium-market talents in America
to be nominated for a Marconi award from The National Association of
Broadcasters: Medium Market Personality of the Year". At the time Watson
was the only individual broadcaster in the Philadelphia/Wilmington market
to have a Marconi nomination.
Watson began his broadcast career as Cheif Engineer and disc jockey at
WELV radio in Ellenville New York. Since then, Watson has worked in
many capacities in broadcasting: Program Director, Account Executive,
News Reporter, and now Talk Show Host.And for a short time, Watson was
co-owner of a radio station in his home town of Farmville, Va.
Watson was introduced to talk radio in Albany New York, at WQBK, also
hosting a weekly TV public affairs program and a weekly  news program.
Watson came to the Delaware Valley to work as a Talk-Show Host, at
WHAT in Philadelphia in 1979.
He was hosting telephone-talk, part-time on Philadelphia's WWDB "THE
TALK STATION" 96.5 FM.,when he was recruited by 1450 WILM
NEWSRADIO in1985.
Watson is currently president of the Wilmington Kiwanis Club, and works
closely with other service orginizations in his capacity as Talk Show Host
and Pulic Affairs Director at WILM NEWSRADIO.
