Personality Bio
Hello everyone, Its been great working at W-I-L-M. For those of you who dont know me, I'm Valorie Mack, a 20-year veteran of broadcast journalism in Delaware. I've worked in both radio and television, so its possible we've crossed paths. I am longtime resident of Delaware. My parents live in Dover, where I graduated from high school. But "home" is actually in the mountains of western North Carolina. (Unfortunately, I share my hometown with Atlanta Olympics bomber, Eric Rudolph), but that's where my roots are, as well as the rest of my family . . all five counties of them. A bit about my background, and just in time for the Fourth of July ! I'm a direct descendant of the original native families of the "Great Smokey" mountains as well as the first "non" natives to settle the region following the Revolutionary War. Two of my ancestors, William Guy and Simon Jeffries (their English names), fought for the American cause against the British. In my spare time, I join with other family members who work for the preservation of our tribal homelands and the history of the Saponi/Occaneechi Nation of North Carolina as well as the remnant Cherokee who managed to avoid the deadly march to Oklahoma, commonly referred to as the "Trail of Tears'. |
